6 years ago today...

Six years ago today, I married the love of my life. My best friend. My other half.

He is my security. My comforter. My therapist. My own personal comedian.

While I've certainly imagined what my life would be if we hadn't met, I wouldn't want it any other way.

Let's go back, shall we?

Matt and I met when we were 16 and 14. On the 4th of July. I was at the California Fireworks celebration with my family. I was bored out of my mind. I had called all of my friends, trying to find someone to come down with me or to find somewhere else to go. While sitting outside reading a magazine, I saw a really hot guy ride up on a golf cart. I remember thinking how out of my league he was.

My sisters were swimming at a friend of our family's home a few blocks over and they forgot their towels. When I was walking them over to them, I saw a friend of a friend, Stacey.

I dropped off the towels and decided to hang out with her. We walked over to her cousin's house and that was when I saw him again. He was working on a go-cart. He was dirty and sweaty, but he took my breath away. {I know...gag, right?}

A little while later, Stacey introduced us. We hung out, rode golf carts through town {I know. We're so cool, right?}, and stuff the whole rest of the day. He was definitely flirting a lot and seemed interested, but I couldn't imagine dating a high schooler.

After the fireworks, we were all inside his house watching MTV. {I told you we were cool.} Stacey had me write down my phone number and she left it with Matt.

Early the next morning, he called! I was shocked and excited. We talked on the phone for the next few days. I saw him again on Thursday at my dad's softball game by Matt's house. We walked around town and went over to the church and sat on the steps to talk. And that's when he asked me to be his girlfriend. July 9, 1998.

The first year was rough. {We were teenagers, for crying out loud..} He broke my heart a few times...I broke his once too. But after the first year, we've been inseparable.

We've been through everything together. 11 high school dances. knee surgery for Matt. both of our high school graduations. the birth of nieces and nephews. college.

And our love is a million times stronger today than it was 13 years ago. Or even 6 years ago. Or even yesterday.
